Artist's biography

John Andrew Perello was born in 1963 in Harlem.

During his childhood he spends his time in the streets to escape from a difficult family context and his school failure. At the age of 17, he starts to write Jon156 (his name and the number of his street), directly on the walls in New York and in subway?s tracks.

By hanging out in the streets, he met A-One which push him to visit some museums and galleries. By doing this, JonOne realise that what he has done may be seen not only as vandalism but also as an art.

It's only in 1984 that he became JonOne and create a collective of graffiti artists 156  All Starz in to make them forget drugs that touch a lot of them.  In 1985 he painted his first canvas with the idea of create something that keep over time. He met Bando who invited him in Paris in 1987, where he leave and work today.

When he arrived in the French capital he noticed that street art is booming there so he decided to join a French group of artist settled in Hopital Ephémère which took place in the walls of the old Bretonneau's hospital turned in a squat.

Really inspired by movements and colours, his first works are similar with what he used to make in the streets with paint jet, spirals and streamers. White do not exist for him, he likes to play with his name by writing is everywhere.

Recently, he decides to start works more expressionist and collaboration in a lot of projects and associations.
