Hans Hartung

Hans Hartung is a german painter born in 1904.

At the beginning of the 20’s, when the expressionistic movement is really important, he studies art and works to replicate the work of Rembrandt or Goya.

In 1922, he discovers the colour’s process of “aniline” which permits to give to watercolours more intense colours.

He moved in Paris in 1935 where he met Piet Mondrian, Alexander Calder… and starts to find his style by creating works “ink tasks”.

Hans Hartung is interested in the effect produce by colours posed besides while working with an abstract movement.  The 40’s mark the end of the preparatory drawing.

Really fast, Hans Hartung became a major of the informal and gestural language of the 50s. The colour remains always but the forms disappear for the benefit of a unique gesture while respecting one principle: every colour has his movement.

He continues to explore new technical like scratching we can find in his works of the 60s. Buy using different tools it gives to him the way to work on the paint when she is still fresh in the way to draw new lines.

Finally, in the 70s, he was less attached to the sign to dedicate itself to the surface of the canvas with the hold of lithographic roller and works on transparency by playing with lights.

Hans Hartung died at the age of 85 years old in 1989.
