Artwork's description

Created in 2007, 15 Ace Zinc Corner exemplifies one of Carl Andre's most iconic series. Composed of square metal plates, simply juxtaposed and placed on the floor, this work embodies Andre's radical approach, which has always relied on an aesthetic of rigorous simplicity. By using found and unaltered materials, such as metal plates, the artist organizes his works according to configurations dictated by the intrinsic properties of these elements and their interaction with the surrounding space. This formal choice marks a decisive break from classical sculptural traditions, favoring a horizontal expansion of the sculpture rather than a vertical elevation.

The year 1967 was a historical turning point in Andre's practice, with the creation of his first floor sculpture, thus redefining the relationship between sculpture, space, and the viewer. With works like 15 Ace Zinc Corner, Andre continues his quest for reduction to the essential, creating compositions that resemble a path or a road stretching continuously into space. This minimalist approach is based on three fundamental concepts: form, structure, and place, which have become the pillars of his work.
