Artwork's description

From the mid-1950s, the art of Roger Bissière asserted itself and freed itself. This skilfully composed work represents a grid of lightly traced and regularly spaced lines. These quadrilaterals are obtained by harmoniously distributed touches of color. Bissière uses a restrained color palette, punctuated with a few touches of yellow.

“My paintings are untitled images for everyone to hang their dreams on…the material world has disappeared to make way for a marvelous world, peopled with angels and birds and flags in the wind. Painting was for me no more than a desire for poetry... It was no longer anything but a need for effusion. “
