Noir & Blanc

9 April - 11 May 2024

Noir & Blanc celebrates the expressive power of black and white through a series of iconic works illustrating the main currents of 20th-century art.

Created by leading figures of Lyrical abstraction, Cinetic art, Op art, Nouveau Réalisme, Pop art, and Conceptual art, these works bear witness to the importance of these chromatic values in the history of contemporary art.

While black takes the lead with Pierre Soulages, who exploits it to explore the limits of perception, it is no less essential with Hans Hartung, who uses it to convey spontaneity and swiftness. Vasarely employs it recurrently in his works to create optical illusions, as does Louise Nevelson, who uses it to immerse the viewer in contemplation of space, memory, and universality.

Noir & Blanc is not just an exhibition, it is an exploration of the duality of emotions that coexist in art as in life.

Each work tells a story of research, experimentation, and expression, testifying to the infinite richness that black

and white can bring to our understanding of the world. This exhibition invites reflection on the power of the absence of color, revealing how contrasts, far from limiting, can open up infinite horizons of creativity and interpretation
