Artwork's description

Olivier Mosset, born in 1944, is a key figure in abstraction and minimalism. His work Untitled, 1974, acrylic on wood (76 x 76 cm), features a simple thick black circle on a white background. This piece reflects his radical reductionist approach, characteristic of his time with the BMPT group, which sought to challenge conventional painting.

The black circle, a recurring motif in Mosset's work, embodies an art devoid of symbolism or narrative. It invites the viewer to focus on fundamental elements: form, color, and space. In doing so, Mosset questions the very nature of painting, reducing the artwork to its simplest visual expression while advocating for visual and conceptual neutrality.
