Artwork's description
Hans Arp was a French painter, sculptor, and poet. He was associated with the
Dada, Surrealist, and abstract movements. He had a double first name (Jean) to
illustrate his dual linguistic and cultural identity. The form of his creations, often in
the form of sculptures, is characteristic of Arp. In 1920, Jean Arp developed his own
vocabulary, called biomorphic, where his works took on the appearance of life,
featuring plant, animal, or human forms. He drew inspiration from nature, infusing his
creations with a sensual, almost atmospheric quality.
