Artwork's description
Hans Arp stands out as an iconic figure of the Dada movement, which he co-founded with Hugo Ball, Tristan Tzara, Marcel Janco, and Richard Huelsenbeck in 1916. Recognized for his contribution to the ornamentation of the Aubette alongside his wife, the artist Sophie Taeuber-Arp, as well as Theo van Doesburg, Arp excels in all artistic mediums: painting, collage, sculpture, ceramics. No domain seems to escape his bold exploration. However, it is primarily through his sculptures in the round, with captivating biomorphic forms, that his boundless artistic genius shines through. Arp's work surpasses the boundaries of a singular aesthetic to embody an organic fusion between the abstract and the living. His style, often referred to as "bio-morphic," bears witness to his visionary talent, transcending the conventions of art.
This drawing, created late in his career in 1961, exemplifies his exploration of biomorphic forms, which he referred to as "decisive forms."
